GEIPAN

I need to brush up on my French. The French government has made its equivalent of Project Blue Book available online - all their collected UFO sightings and data. Check it out here: GEIPAN

Has anyone got an English mirror of this site? Of course, the French might find such a suggestion kind of insulting. ;) There is a kind of summary site available in English, though: CNES

I'm not into UFOs, but have been through Rachel Nevada many times and blog about it last January: http://sagecoveredhills.blogspot.com/2007/01/rachel-and-nevada-375-memories-of.html

I heard about that on Coast and Dreamland. Also, check this out: http://www.freedomofinfo.org/ .

Sage, that is a great post. Very poetic. And I have always wanted to stop at the Ale Inn. I'll remember not to do it on Labor Day weekend. Roswell has a similar festival around Independence Day, and the size of the town quadruples for it.

Thanks for the link, Kevan! I'll check it out.

Hello JaneDoughnut:

Have you ever seen a UFO or had a blackout you could not remember?

I enjoy astrology as much as the next person, but I don't believe in UFO's or little green men as the so called UFO freaks do.

It is much more likely that Sasquatch Exists more than UFO's and little green men.

At least the constant changing evolution of creatures that live here on this planet and the many thousands of miles of uncharted forest lands gives that more far more possibilities of that existing over UFO's and little green men from distant planets.

To travel to the closest solar system in our galaxy 4 light years would be an extensive distance to travel much less the fact that we have been probing the universe for years with powerful telescopes like the Hubble telescope for possible planets that could even support life forms, even Carl Sagan specified before his death of the possibilities of life on distant planets as not very likely.

Lex - not really. Unless this experience, which I sent to Aura's Terrifying Tales, counts as a UFO encounter. Though I think it was probably ball lightning.

Mr. Dandy, UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object. Saying you don't believe in them is like saying you don't believe in religion. Maybe you don't believe they're piloted by aliens, maybe you don't believe in God, but UFO's and religion still exist.
AND let me get disproportionately offended by this: "Carl Sagan specified before his death of the possibilities of life on distant planets as not very likely." Not true. He was, to his death, a firm believer in alien life. He just felt is was extremely unlikely they'd been here, and fairly unlikely we'd ever make any kind of contact.
Personally, I seriously doubt there are alien civilizations playing pranks on us and doing anal probes. But I still think there's something unexplained going on here, and that other species probably exist somewhere out there.

Water, I don't think it will be long before one pops up. The GEIPAN site generated so much excitement that heavy traffic knocked it out for hours just after they released it.

There are things our pea brains can't explain. The phenomenon of "UFOs" has been reported since man popped his eyes open. I do think we get caught up in our technological intellectualism that we forget how truly small we are in the overall scheme of the universe. Love the story about the "ball lightning". Did you find out if that's what it was?

I never did find out what it was. How could I? It's a fading memory of a brief moment. Maybe the only reason it's still a treasured one is because I don't know.

The best UFO book I have ever read is "UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse" by noted Fortean scholar John A. Keel. It argues that the phenenomena associated with UFOs likely has little to do with extraterrestrial aliens. It's a very good book if you can find it, and it will open your thinking to other explanations besides "little grey dudes."

I will have to find it. But believe it or not, Whitley Streiber opened my eyes to that possibilty long ago. Just before he went completely off the deep end, I guess.

I don't know of an English mirror site, but you can always use google to translate it to english. Far from a perfect translation, but you can get the basic gist of it. I have my doubts there is anything very new or interesting in it which is why I haven't checked it out yet.
